A Very Boring Diet

A Very Boring Diet

I’m getting married in two and a half months.

That’s pretty daunting, considering I’m still carrying around a fair bit of extra weight from my last few years of hedonistic indulgences. Nobody wants to look bad in their wedding photos, and I’m going to be looking at them for the rest of my life.

With that being said, dieting is never a comfortable experience, even at the best of times. And I have to kickstart it in a big way in order to make the most of the limited time I have before the big day.

I think the biggest part of diets that causes me to fall off them is the effort put in to creating dishes that are satisfying but still within the constraints. It’s a constant battle of thinking of something new and refreshing, and counting out the calories and macros each and every time.

While that in itself is an exercise in discomfort, I’ve decided to apply it another way.

For the next month, I’ll only be able to eat 4 foods for any meal. Chicken breast, broccoli, carrots, and potatoes, as these are foods ranked amongst the highest for satiety to keep me full. All snacks have been purged from the house to avoid temptations, and it’ll eliminate the issue of choices every single day, at the expense of probably going insane by the time the month is over.

My rules are going to be as follows:

  • Only chicken breast, broccoli, carrots, and potatoes allowed at any meal
  • 1tbsp olive oil allowed per meal
  • Seasonings are allowed, including things like hot sauces, soy sauce, and herbs
  • No liquid calories – only water, tea, and black coffee are allowed

If I aim for 2 meals a day, even if I have huge 300g chicken breasts at each meal and 300g of potatoes (carrots and broccoli I can probably go wild with), it’s hard to break even 1200 calories and I’m hoping that the satiety will keep me full enough to stick to it.

Here’s to another adventure into discomfort.
